The Unique Lodge and Surrounds

Africa’s large game live in harmony with man as the reserve is home to several families, including your hosts, who make this part of the world their home amongst the wilds. A range of activities, besides the accommodation, is available to guests. If you would like to do more than relax on the pool side deck and wait for game to come and drink at the waterhole, we have a range of activities to tempt you. Please note that most of these are extras and are available by pre- booking. Game drives are part of the tented chalet package. Please contact us if you have requests or queries on activities.

Game Drive

Enjoy a game drive, in an open 4 wheel drive vehicle, escorted by a highly experienced guide. As well as viewing wildlife, you can enjoy the serenity of the indigenous flora, an often overlooked integral part of an ecosystem.

Bush Walks

Spend a few hours with us immersed in the wonders of the local vegetation and begin to understand the value that the vegetation has in underpinning the wildlife, and the interdependency that exists between soil, fauna and flora. Local information about the vegetation and game make for light conversation topics en route.

Sundowners

Sit by the Olifants river and take in the view of the wildlife that the river attracts and the indigenous trees that line the riverbank. You’ll spot the jackalberry, the sycamore fig and the sausage tree (so named because of the big, brown, sausage-like fruits that hang from its branches).

A Typical Day

At the lodge and surrounds.

An early wake up to get you going. Feel completely at ease as you join the dawn game drive on an open vehicle which will enhance your bush drive experience, whilst at the same time providing you good comfort and safety on your trip. You will be driven by a qualified and well experienced guide, who will inform you about the dynamics and ecology of the bush.

Return to the lodge for a well earned and wholesome breakfast. Thereafter the middle part of the day is for you to enjoy at your leisure…

Relax on the pool side deck and wait for game to come and drink at the waterhole. Often unique elephant encounters are experienced in this way. Or relax at the pool gazing onto the Drakensberg Mountains in the distance with the bushveld right in front of you.

After a light lunch, by arrangement, an excursion to local places of interest can be arranged.

In the later part of the afternoon, perhaps enjoy a sundowner on the banks of the Olifants River, followed by an evening/night drive to see some of the nocturnal animals. This will pave the way for a return to the lodge.

Sit under the magnificently clear skies dazzling with a spectacle of stars. Be comforted by a slowly burning campfire and enjoy a delicious truly South African meal.

Your hosts Laura and Mike will attend to your every need without being intrusive. Our mission is to share with our guests our love and passion for MUWETI and the bush.

Whether you stay overnight, for a week or for a month, our personal commitment to you as the guest will be the same.

The area is regarded as a mild risk malaria area and you are advised to take the necessary precautions before, during and after your stay to prevent contracting malaria. Please consult your doctor/pharmacist who will be able to assist you in this regard.
